Overview of the Community Supervision Tool (CST): The Community Supervision Tool (CST) is designed to be used with the supervisees in the community. This can include those on probation or parole, as well as superviees in residential facilities and other community alternatives (such as day reporting centers). The instrument was designed to be administered through file review and a structured interview, although some items can be obtained through a self-report questionnaire. The CST consists of 35 items across seven domains:
2. Education, Employment, and Financial Situation;
6. Peer Associations; and
7. Criminal Attitudes and Behavioral Patterns
As elaborated later in this guide, each item is scored using specific criteria and the scores can range from 0 to 2, depending on the item. The final score is a summed product of each of the individual items creating a range between 0 and 49. The higher the score, the greater the risk the individual poses.
