A way of being and interacting with supervisees that involves collaboration, acceptance, compassion and evocation.

-Learning and using MI requires being open to MI spirit.

-MI spirit comes with time and practice.

-MI Spirit involves forming a partnership with a supervisee to create an atmosphere that supports change rather than force a change.

-If conditions are supportive, supervisees are more likely to make positive changes.

-Since the goal of MI is to enhance internal motivations, it is important to convey respect for a supervisee’s autonomy.

-Convey that the supervisee is responsible for changing.
