Strategic Responses: Amplified Reflection


Use a reflection that acknowledges a supervisee’s sustain talk and add intensity or certainty. Make an overstatement about how they do not want to change to get them to argue for change.

  • Supervisee: Things are fine the way they are.
  • Staff: There’s really no room for improvement.
  • Supervisee: Well, I mean things aren’t perfect, but I’m happy enough as it is.
  • Staff: Things just couldn’t possibly be any better than they are right now.
