Use a reflection that acknowledges a supervisee’s sustain talk and add intensity or certainty. Make an overstatement about how they do not want to change to get them to argue for change.
Supervisee: Things are fine the way they are.
Staff: There’s really no room for improvement.
Supervisee: Well, I mean things aren’t perfect, but I’m happy enough as it is.
Staff: Things just couldn’t possibly be any better than they are right now.
